The Blue Ash Fire Department (BAFD) has been awarded the distinction of housing the Ohio Honor Log, which is designed to honor the sacrifice of the nation’s fallen heroes.

The Honor Log, provided by Carry On, is a beautifully carved piece of lumber by artist Cameron Dockery. It was designed with the following symbolism:

  • 7’ long represents the average length of a casket.
  • 22” in diameter to raise awareness of 22 veteran suicides per day.
  • 6 personnel to carry the log representing pallbearers.
  • Unique artistic designs specific to the fallen heroes of each state.

The BAFD will serve as home base for the log, which can be requested for display at special events throughout Ohio.

“Firefighter/Paramedic Scott Reed spent hours working on this project with Carry On and was instrumental in making this happen,” said Blue Ash Fire Chief Chris Theders. “We are honored to be the home for this special dedication for Ohio’s heroes.”

Reed even helped design the Ohio Honor Log.  It is one of three currently on display in the U.S.  Carry On's goal is to have one created and displayed in each state.

The Honor Log was presented to the BAFD on Friday, April 15, in a ceremony and presentation to mark the occasion at the North Fire Station, 10647 Kenwood Rd.

The Honor Log is now on display at the Blue Ash Recreation Center.

Carry On is a non-profit that honors the nation’s fallen military, law enforcement, firefighters, and EMS through advocacy and the empowerment of surviving family members.
