Neighborhoods at Summit Park

City of Blue Ash residents enjoy a high quality of life thanks to the foresight of our predecessors. Our community is frequently praised for its excellent services, beautiful neighborhoods, and outstanding schools. The City’s strong economic base has allowed us to have amenities other communities can only dream of. Blue Ash has become a premiere destination for many, but we have to work together to keep it that way.

Over the past few years, it has become more difficult to attract and retain companies. The days of simply providing a nice office park are long gone. In today’s increasingly competitive market, decision-makers are most interested in communities with what is called a “mixed-use” component. They’re looking for an environment where people can easily walk to work, to a great meal or exciting retail; a place with a sense of community and a more urbanized feel. These developments also include a variety of housing options to allow for further walkability and integration.

CEOs look for these amenity-rich environments to attract workers. According to the ULI Terwilliger Center for Housing, up to 80% of aging millennials want to leave downtown for “surban” communities – areas that mix suburban comforts with city luxuries. You may have seen that Amazon requested these mixed-use elements in its search for its second corporate headquarters last year. In order for Blue Ash to position itself as a leading city, we must stay on top of this trend.

On January 25th, Blue Ash City Council voted to approve a new mixed-use development called the Neighborhoods at Summit Park. This will bring office space, retail, restaurants, apartments, and a senior living community to the former airport runway parcel, near Summit Park. What is now an empty piece of land will be transformed into a vibrant area to be enjoyed by our residents, visitors, and workers. This new development will be instrumental in attracting new businesses to Blue Ash and maintaining the city’s sustainability into the future.

Change is not always easy, but it can be very rewarding. The City of Blue Ash is not a stranger to change. In fact, many residents frequently comment on the amazing transformation our city has made in the last three decades or so. While the Neighborhoods at Summit Park will be a change in landscape, it also marks an exciting step forward in continuing to be a progressive and successful community.
