All applicants for the position of Blue Ash Police Officer must meet the following qualifications:

Age: 21

US Citizen: Yes

High School Grad/GED: Yes

Driver's License: Yes - Any Valid US driver's license.

Ability to Read/Speak English: Yes

Vision: Visual acuity must be correctable to 20/20 and vision must be free of color deficiencies that would preclude one from performing the essential job functions or would pose a direct threat to the health or safety of oneself or others

Felony, Criminal Activity Disqualifiers:
Background must be free of prior felony convictions. Other disqualifiers/behaviors to be determined by the Chief of Police or his appointed designee.

Driving Disqualifiers:
Must have a valid driver’s license. Other disqualifiers/behaviors to be determined by the Chief of Police or his appointed designee.

Drug Use Disqualifiers:
To be determined by the Chief of Police or his appointed designee.

Financial Disqualifiers:
To be determined by the Chief of Police or his appointed designee.

Application Procedures:
Applicants must have (1) registered on-line with National Testing Network (NTN) at www.nationaltestingnetwork.com and (2) complete the on-line NTN Personal History Questionnaire at the same time registration is completed. Applicants who have previously and successfully completed the NTN registration and examination procedure for Law Enforcement on or after September 1, 2015 may contact NTN to have their examination results and Personal History Questionnaire forwarded to the City of Blue Ash Civil Service Commission. Applicants will need to complete and submit an employment application on-line at the City of Blue Ash website (www.BlueAsh.com) in order to be considered.

Written Examination and Scores:
Candidates must complete a written exam. Cost to take the written exam is at the applicant's expense made payable to NTN at the time of registration.

NTN will provide the City of Blue Ash Civil Service Commission with a list of candidates who have achieved an acceptable score on the written examination. All candidates who achieve an acceptable score and having completed an employment application through the City of Blue Ash website will be placed on an eligible-for-employment list ranked by their passing score plus any extra credit as described below. Tied scores will be ranked by the date and time candidates submitted an employment application on-line through the City of Blue Ash website. The eligible list will be in effect for a minimum of one year and up to two years. Note: Placement on an eligible list does not guarantee employment.

Prior Service Credit or Military Service Credit:
Extra credit will be given in the form of additional points added to the final passing grade, calculated by taking:

  • ½% of the total grade attainable for each of the first ten (10) years of Full-Time Police Patrol Officer service or,
  • a total of five (5) points for those candidates providing a DD-214 confirming an honorable discharge from the United States Armed Forces.

No applicant will receive more than a total of five (5) additional points. No type of credit will be awarded unless the applicant has achieved a passing score on the written exam. A DD-214 form MUST be uploaded and attached to the on-line employment application no later than March 31, 2016 in order to receive credit for honorable discharge from the United States Armed Forces.

Typical Qualifications:
Good social and general intelligence; ability to deal firmly and courteously with the public; good knowledge of first-aid methods; good judgment; some skill in the use of firearms; ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions; ability to drive an automobile under adverse conditions; good powers of agility; excellent physical condition.

Candidates possessing an associate's degree or higher are preferred.

Employment Offer/Hiring Process:
Subsequent to an offer of employment, and prior to beginning employment, candidates will be subject to a background investigation, physical agility test, polygraph exam, fitness for duty psychological exam, and pre-employment pension physical with drug screening.
