GENERAL INFORMATION - Waste and recycling collection is provided free of charge by the City through a contract with a private waste collection company (currently Rumpke) for all single-family residences receiving curb-side collection. Rumpke provides a Rumpke-owned 96-gallon waste wheeler container and a Rumpke-owned recycling container (16-gallon red bin or 65-gallon green cart) both at no charge to the resident. Both items should remain at the residence as they are the property of Rumpke. Damaged or stolen waste wheelers/recycling containers should be reported to the Public Works Director's Office (513) 745-8538 weekdays 7:30 AM - 5:30 PM. Rumpke will repair or replace damaged waste wheelers and recycling containers. To order please call the City at (513) 745-8538.

Rumpke does accept some large items for disposal at their landfill when placed at the curb on your scheduled collection day. If item(s) will require two people to lift, please call the City at 745-8538 prior to your collection day. Below are large items accepted at the curb:

    • Appliances (dishwasher, stove, washer, dryer, water heater). See bottom of page for disposal of appliances with Freon such as a refrigerator, air conditioner, or dehumidifier.
    • Furniture (chair, couch, table, etc.)
    • Electronic Devices (TV, computer monitor & tower, printers, Fax machine, scanner, etc.)
    • Glass door/window - only accepted if glass is covered with plastic or cardboard. You may also place an "X" across the glass area with duck tape. No contractor construction debris accepted.

Some common items not accepted at the curb by Rumpke include (see "Drop-Off Service" info below for disposal information):

    • Household Hazardous Waste (automobile oil, gasoline, tires, pesticides, paint (solidified latex accepted), antifreeze, mercury bulbs, etc.)
    • No private contractor construction debris accepted. (small amounts of debris from a home remodeling job performed by the resident are acceptable if completely contained inside Rumpke's waste wheeler, your personal garbage cans or tied in bundles 4-6' in length)
    • Concrete
    • Rocks
    • Dirt/Top Soil

Yardwaste (tree branches, grass, trimmings, etc.) may be commingled with your trash in Rumpke's waste wheeler or placed in paper or plastic trash bags.

As a courtesy to our waste hauler, please call the City at 745-8538 prior to your collection day when placing a large item at the curb, and we will notify them (couch, recliner, appliance [not containing Freon], dresser, etc.).

MISSED WASTE/RECYCLING - If your waste/recycling is missed on your scheduled collection day, please call (513) 745-8538 to report. Rumpke will return within 24-48 hours to collect, but only if it was at the curb prior to 7 AM on your scheduled collection day.
NEW RECYCLABLE ITEMS ACCEPTED IN CURBSIDE CONTAINERS - Effective November 1, 2009, the City's contracted waste hauler, Rumpke, will accept all plastic bottles and jugs #1-#7 (look on the bottom of the bottle for the number in a triangular recycle symbol). The bottle must have a small mouth with a base wider than the mouth. Typical bottles include milk jugs, soda bottles, laundry detergent bottles, water bottles, shampoo bottles and contact solution bottles. Previously only plastics #1 PETE and #2 HDPE were acceptable by Rumpke, but now thanks to Rumpke's advanced sorting technology at their Material Recovery Facility, residents can now recycle all plastics #1 - #7. Plastics not accepted include any plastic not in the shape of a bottle such as plastic bags; butter/margarine tubs; plastic plates, cups or utensils; food trays (such as from frozen food); plastic toys; plastic wrappers/packaging; film containers; and oil jugs. Also now accepted are clean pizza boxes containing no grease. Click here to view a complete list of acceptable Items in Curbside Recycling Bins & at City Recycling Drop-off Locations
NEW RUMPKE RULE FOR MATTRESS/BOXSPRING CURBSIDE COLLECTION - Due to the present bed bug infestation in the Cincinnati area, Rumpke will no longer collect mattresses/boxsprings at the curb unless they are wrapped in plastic and sealed with tape (wrapped like a present). This can be done using the plastic that a new mattress/boxspring is wrapped in or local hardware stores carry plastic wrapping and box tape. Another option for Blue Ash residents is to use the City's drop-off dumpsters at the City's Service Department Center (see below for hours and I.D. requirements). Items dropped off at the Service Department Center must be placed in the open-top containers by the resident.
DELAYS in Waste Pickup Due to Holidays - Waste collection in Blue Ash will be made on all holidays EXCEPT for New Year's Day and Christmas Day. If either of these holidays fall on a weekday, collection will be made the next day, with a one-day delay the remainder of that week. Waste collection delays are printed within the Community Calendar. Note that collection delays of various waste contractors typically printed in regional newspapers (such as The Cincinnati Enquirer) may not apply to Blue Ash.
TV/COMPUTER/ELECTRONIC RECYCLING -
A local Blue Ash business offers TV/Computer/Electronic recycling. The Blue Ash business is 2trg (formerly Technology Recycling Group) located at 11093 Kenwood Road, Building #7 (north of the Louisville Tile building at 11083). Their phone number is 761-5333. Computers, monitors, printers, electronics, IT related items, and TVs are some of the items they accept . Please call before dropping off to confirm they accept the item(s) you have and to inquire about their rates or view their web-site Click here. Another option is Best Buy who charges $10/per television or monitor, but you will receive a $10 gift card in return. Click here to view their web-site.

DROP-OFF SERVICE FOR RESIDENTIAL USE ONLY (HAZARDOUS MATERIALS, LARGE ITEMS, MIXED TRASH) - As a convenience for residents only, containers are in place at the Service Department Center located at 6131 Interstate Circle (click on link below for directions) for drop off of items such as those listed below. Please note that residents must check in at the office prior to using the containers, fill out a disposal form, and present proof of Blue Ash residency by showing a valid driver's license and one other item showing your house address such as a utility bill. Residents are required to sign a "Drop-Off Disposal" form in order to dispose of items (see image to the right to print out form). Hours for drop-off are 7 AM to 3 PM weekdays. No contractors may use these containers (NO EXCEPTIONS).

Items which may be disposed of include large or small amounts of unbundled brush; trash items (i.e., furniture, bedding, wood, lumber, appliances); hazardous materials (oil, gas, paint, mercury, lawn pesticides, tires, etc.); and broken concrete, dirt, rocks, topsoil, and debris. These containers are extremely handy, especially if disposal is desired on a day other than regular garbage pickup, or if the item would not be accepted by the waste contractor. DISPOSAL OF ITEMS WITH CFC (Freon) -The City provides curbside pickup, at no charge to residents, of items containing CFC (Freon). Previously, residents would have to arrange for removal of the Freon by a certified technician at their expense before the item(s) would be picked up. Examples of such items include refrigerators, freezers, dehumidifiers, and air conditioners. Residents should schedule such pickup by calling the Service Department Center at (513) 686-1250 weekdays 7 AM - 3 PM. Do not place item(s) at the curb until a pickup day has been scheduled. Doors must be removed. Appliances not containing freon may be placed at the curb, on the same side of your driveway as your waste wheeler, on your regular waste pickup day for the City's waste hauler to pickup. Examples of such items include dishwashers, stoves, and water heaters.
