The State of Ohio requires individuals to renew their driver's license every four years on or before their birthdate. Failure to renew before expiration can be a great inconvenience, since a six-month lapse requires complete retesting before the State can reissue a valid driver's license. The penalty for driving with an expired license is very costly. Mark your calendar so you don't forget to renew licenses and registrations.

VEHICLE REGISTRATION / LICENSE PLATE RENEWAL

The State of Ohio requires individuals to renew vehicle registration annually. Many people choose a birthdate for vehicle registration, but this is not mandatory. However, once you choose a particular date for your registration, that date remains permanent for that particular registration. The deadline for renewal is, therefore, one year from the date designated on your last registration. The State of Ohio will send a reminder two months prior to the renewal deadline. When it's time to renew your auto registration with the State of Ohio, specify Blue Ash, not Cincinnati, as your address. This will assure that monies collected from motor vehicle registration and gasoline taxes will be spent on the roads in Blue Ash.

You may renew vehicle registration by mail if your name, address, and vehicle have NOT changed over the course of the year. However, you will be charged $3 extra for postage for new plates or postage for just a renewal sticker. With questions for renewal by mail, call 1-800-589-8247. The State also now allows registration via the internet under certain circumstances. Call for more information.
