BLUE ASH CODE OF ORDINANCES
An “ordinance” is a law or regulation formally enacted by Blue Ash City Council in accordance with the terms set forth in Blue Ash’s Charter and with State of Ohio laws. Certain ordinances are included in “Codified” fashion, and these are ordinances that are of a permanent and general nature. The majority of ordinances passed by Council at a typical Council meeting are not included in the codified ordinances, with such examples including individual purchases, bid awards, awarding of contracts, etc.
Blue Ash’s Codified ordinances are arranged and consolidated into component codes, titles, chapters, and sections, and are published in an organized manner. Blue Ash’s codification is handled through the Walter H. Drane Company. Click here to view Blue Ash’s Codified ordinances on the Drane website.
The organization and numbering of Blue Ash’s Codified Ordinances includes parts, titles, chapters, and sections based on an adaptation of the decimal numbering system which is comparable with the Ohio Revised Code and is in accordance with accepted practice in codification. A summary of the “parts” of Blue Ash’s Codified Ordinances is below:
Each section is self-identifying as to code, chapter, and section number. For example, Section 331.01 indicates that the section falls within Part Three (Traffic Code), the chapter number is 331, and the section number is .01 of Chapter 331 (or sometimes, in its entirety, referred to as Section 331.01 of Chapter 331 of Part Three of the Codified Ordinances). Generally, the numbering of chapters is not inclusive and often numbers are “skipped” or not assigned to account for future changes, past sections that may have been repealed, etc.
